Orthodontics in Maryland
If you have decided that it’s time to correct problems with your teeth or jaws, Dr. Allen Gotora and the staff at Stellar Dental have the experience and the expertise to help, with several different orthodontic treatment options.
Six Month Braces
If you are considering braces, one thing that may be stopping you is the thought of wearing them for years. However, with Six Month Smiles from Dr. Gotora and Stellar Dental, you can have a great smile in just months!
Six Month Smiles can help many problems, such as too much space between teeth, an overbite, crowding or overlapping teeth. The braces are made up of clear brackets and tooth-colored arch wires, which are adjusted to gradually move the teeth into the correct position.
Although wearing braces gives patients straight teeth and beautiful smiles, braces aren’t just for cosmetic purposes. And, braces aren’t just for kids, either. They can help patients of all ages who have a “bad bite,” which can be caused by crowded or missing teeth, or misaligned jaws. They can also be used to: shorten the treatment time for later corrective orthodontics; encourage proper jaw growth; and to improve how the lips close and to improve speech problems.
Traditional braces, although the most noticeable type of braces, are often the least expensive orthodontic option. Traditional braces are made up of metal brackets, which are cemented to the teeth with a special adhesive. These brackets are connected to each other by arch wires, which are adjusted periodically. This adjustment applies pressure to the teeth and gradually moves them into position.
The length of time you will have to wear braces depends on what problems you have with your teeth and your bite. The average time a patient has to wear braces is one to three years. Dr. Gotora will be able to give you an idea of how long you’ll have to wear braces after he examines your teeth and develops your treatment plan.
After you get your braces, you will have to return to Stellar Dental about every month or six weeks, so that Dr. Gotora can adjust them.
ClearCorrect is a clear, almost invisible, system of aligners. The patient is given a different aligner every three weeks or so. Each aligner is a little different than the last, and over time the aligners gradually move the teeth into the desired position.
You should wear your aligner as much as you can, but you can take it out to eat and brush and floss. Most patients will wear their ClearCorrect aligners for between one to two years. The amount of time depends on each patient’s specific condition and desired results. Those who comply with the treat
Why should I bother fixing my teeth?
Many people may think that orthodontic treatments are only done for cosmetic purposes — and, yes, these orthodontic appliances can be used to give you the smile you’ve always wanted!
However, orthodontics are also an important tool to correct problems with teeth that can be very serious if not treated. If your teeth are crooked, this can cause pain in the jaw. Because it can be hard to thoroughly clean teeth that are crooked or crowded together, tooth decay and gum disease may result.
Which orthodontic treatment is right for me?
To determine which orthodontic treatment is right for you, Dr. Gotora will perform a thorough examination of your teeth. He will check the health of your teeth and gums, and he will take X-rays. Depending on what problems you have, one treatment may be better than another. Of course, Dr. Gotora will also be able to discuss the cost of each treatment with you, which is another important factor for patients to consider.
